ANNA LEWEIN : ARTIST SPOTLIGHT

We asked our entire team of artists about this project. Check out what Anna Lewein (WITCH) has to say about it.

Anna Lewein

What was your first Shakespeare play?

A Midsummer Night's Dream (I played Hermia).

What drew you to this production?

I am also always fascinated by how characters are interpreted based on gender. Does that help or hinder our understanding? Are their prejudices we have to overcome ourselves to properly view the true core of a character? What happens when we try to extract a character from their physical gender? These are questions I find exciting as an actor.

Why are you excited about this production?

On top of having an all-female cast, linking the witches to the power of social media helps bring this play to the present day.

What other plays would like to do in this style?

Every single one, especially all of Shakespeare's plays.

What do you think will surprise people about this production?

In a play full of women, the ideas of masculinity or manliness still shine through. It allows us to confront the ideas of the patriarchy without getting into an argument with your uncle at Christmas dinner.

Why wouldn't you want anyone to miss M.Beth?

Between the all-female cast and the technical design, this is going to be a show like no other. I cannot encourage you enough to attend.
